GM Diagnostics FAQs (MDI, GDS2, Tech2win)

Good questions and answers of GM diagnostic test. Just share some i think good to share with you all. Hope it helps. Question:  That screen does look exactly like my  Tech II  menus. Some sort of emulator I'm guessing. Nice find. Edit: Curious how you connected the laptop to your obd 2 port? Answer:  you plug the device into the OBD2 port, and then you either use Wifi back to the laptop to connect that way ($129), or you can use a usb cable instead ($119). Even through the device is using  GDS2 ,  MDI  and Tech2win software on the laptop side, the only thing that I have to question is if you can drive firmware upgrades through it to reprogram modules if needed as well? Now the bad news that maybe the op can bring us up to speed, did you mange to get the tech2 win to install on a 64 bit machine with 64 bit windows, or did you install tech2win and the rest of the software a 32windows machine only isntead. Question:  First GDS2 works with the included software as a

VXDIAG VCX NANO GM + TIS2000: Works Good!

VXDIAG VCX NANO GM  +  TIS2000 : IT works!! ok for anyone trying to use the VXDIAG GM nano with SPS this is what you need to do (order is important): *** please note you cannot use the VM that the VXDIAG package comes with (GDS2 VM). It’s configured in such a way it won’t work with the dongle crack and caused me a lot of head scratching to find this out. 1. Create a windows XP 32bit VM using VMWare Player 2. Make sure you add an LPT port (set to auto, not connected on startup). It doesn’t matter if your actual PC has an LPT port or not this is needed for the dongle crack later. 3. Install VMWare tools for your VM 4.After you have the windows VM up and running install the BOSH MDI drivers found (theMDI drivers on the driver disk and vxmanager installer wouldn’t install on my xp 32bit VM but the one from bosh does). 5.From the driver disk or from  allscanner.com  install the VXDIAG MDI package with pass thru driver (VXDIAG MDI manager or VXDIAG Manager) Free download tis_data_

GM MDI Programming Manual

Image
GM has had its newest programming/J2534 Pass Thru device on the market for some years now. A lot has been said about it and I am here to tell you that I have finally taken the plunge into GM MDI in, pretty much, all of its aspects. I decided after taking it into the field for a while, it was time to report what I experienced and how I feel about MDI and its companion programs. It is a formidable diagnostic/programming system that has really benefited me more than it has impeded me. With just a few exceptions, this system has my stamp of approval. let me say right out of the gate that my intent is not to do anything but provide you with information that can be found on any of the literature that GM has provided for MDI, Tech II WIN and GDS II users. What I am offering you is a slightly more comprehensive report of these facts as I understand them, have experienced. Additionally, I am NOT an engineer before I am a vehicle technician and automotive trainer, thus my approach is view of a t

GM Tech2 or GM MDI

The Tech2 clone is definitely fine, but I think people looking for a good tool now should really look at an MDI clone instead. The Future of the Tech 2 The Tech 2 remains an essential tool through at least the 2010 model year. The GM MDI will not support past models when its diagnostic capabilities are introduced. And, the Tech2 will continue to be needed to diagnose all vehicles fromprevious model years. Remote programming with the Tech 2 will continue to be supported for use on all 2007 and previous vehicles.Additional information will be supplied in future. HOW WILL THE G-M MDI BE USED? The new G-M MDI can be used only in the Pass-Thru method. This means you can use it as your programming tool, while your Tech 2/CANdi remains available for diagnostics and other duties. I have issues with it, however: The GM MDI will not support past models when its diagnostic capabilities are introduced. I'm not sure what this means. The GM MDI WILL clearly support past model years with the Te
